Where can i find a good unbiased comparison of Web Hosting Solutions?

Posted by admin on March 11th, 2010 and filed under web solutions | 8 Comments »

There seems about a million and one companies who offer web hosting nowadays, and due to my old webhost becoming too rediculously expensive for my non-buisness website, i find myself a bit overwhelmed by the amount of hosting optios available, and want to find myself a good host. that offers a reasonable amount of storage facilitys and a decent selection of web-site programming tools (PHP and MYSQL support a bare minimum)

so does anyone know any websites that offer a goo comprehensive listing of hosts that doesnt look as if they have been given a chunk of cash to praise one server from the high heavens?
My website is more an online CV, tends to contain a lot of self-programmed scripts and programs and various things im working on at any given moment. its more space and extra features im interested in.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

    Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukenden/

They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 1500000 MB (1500 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.
Visit the site to check details.

At 49 years old Should I choose a Web Development career or a System Administration one?

Posted by admin on March 11th, 2010 and filed under web development | 5 Comments »

Please be honest with me. I have very little IT background and I am in the hotel industry( night auditor).

Is web development an option for me at my age or should I go head & prepare myself for a microsoft certification to brecome a Windows Administrator?

Honestly? OK. At 49 years old, what the hell are you doing asking for career advice on Yahoo? Talk to a professional career counselor. Your family is depending on you to make a better effort than this.

Do professional web developers use Dreamweaver?

Posted by admin on March 11th, 2010 and filed under web developers | 2 Comments »

Considering that you know how to program from scratch , I wonder if DW is use in big companies to develop websites?

I use it….it’s still chock full of features, and yeah, I generally code everything by hand, because I know what it will do.

I know a lot of developers who use it (again, they usually do everything by hand in it), although I also know a bunch who don’t go too far beyond Notepad++. You use what you’re comfortable with, in the end.

How much should a basic ecommerce website cost me?

Posted by admin on March 11th, 2010 and filed under ecommerce website design | 1 Comment »

Having given up on attempting to figure out dreamweaver and shopping cart integration, i have decided to just pay someone who knows how to do it.

However, i have no idea how much i should be charged. They are evading the question slightly, and asking ‘how much would you like to spend’, which to be honest is what market sellers do when they think that the customer might suggest an amount higher than the value.

Anyway, i am considering getting them to set me up a basic web shop using ecommerce? I have used this website as a guide for what i want http://www.lunacyboutique.co.uk/tops-c-44.html
I have sent them my layouts and graphics which i created a while ago. All they’d be doing is setting it up. They don’t have to do any design work.
There would be 4 categories and around 50 items to start off with.

    Thankyou!

    Hi mareasa1
A friend of mine recently had this done at a basic cost of £1500. It is a 5 page site – much simpler than your example.
However, it seems that this is your first attempt at e-commerce trading – good luck, but I think there are two points you need to be aware of, if you are not already familiar with, regarding money.
Most webmasters rely on ‘updates’ for income. A site like the example you gave needs constant updates and changes as stocks and product lines/prices change. Make sure that there is a FIRM agreement of these costs at the outset as they will have the username and password to your site and any changes will HAVE to go through them.
Second, and equally important. Are you aware that the banks will not transfer the monies to you when goods are purchased? They hold the money back for a long time (I’m not sure how long but maybe three months after the sale) so you have to ensure that you have enough funds to cover this cash flow shortage. When you have been established for one year or maybe 6 months it is only after this period that you will get the money immediately when the goods are purchased.

Where should I go for website design in Tempe, AZ?

Posted by admin on March 9th, 2010 and filed under website design companies | 2 Comments »

I need a website for my internet business. Does anybody know of a good tempe website design company?

No, but I know of a great one in California.
Design companies don’t need to be local… the only reason for that is for your ‘piece of mind’. In most cases, by limiting to ‘local’ design companies, you also limit the creative potential, and normally don’t receive what you wanted.
